Alabama Steel Terminals – a joint venture between Tristate Maritime Service and the Richardson Group of Companies will build a $36 million dollar steel coil handling facility at the Port of Mobile in Alabama.

The 372,000-square-foot warehouse will have rail, truck and barge access at the port’s main docks complex, the Alabama State Port Authority said in a statement. The new facility will be built in two phases behind Pier D2 berth on a 40-foot deep channel.

In the first phase, AST will construct 178,200 square feet of covered bay area equipped with three 50-ton capacity overhead bridge cranes and 168,000 square feet of open storage yard. In the second phase, AST will build another 194,400-square-foot bay area equipped with three additional 50-ton capacity overhead bridge cranes.

The port expects to handle an additional 650,000 tons of steel per year through this terminal.
